Founded in 2013, Studio 189 is a fashion label created by Hollywood actress Rosaro Dawson in conjunction with Ghanian American designer Abrima Erwiah.
The brand works with local Artisans. The brand prioritizes local artistry and sustainability at the center of its inspiration. This can be seen in the bold colorful prints seen in the collections inspired by the region’s rich tradition of textiles. Apart from bringing luxury fashion back to Africa, studio 189 is leading the way when it comes to sustainable fashion. In fact in 2018 the company one the CFDA’S Sustainable Fashion Award.
Runway
Much more than a brand, Studio 189 is an initiative, global partnership to promote African craftsmanship to the world in terms of local artists and artisans. So far the brand has hosted pop up shops with some of the biggest names in fashion such as Fendi and Opening Ceremony. Studio 189 also has partnerships with Lexus, Bottega Veneta, Vogue, Dior, Roberto Cavalli, and H & M, just to name a few.
This past Spring/Summer 2019 fashion week, Studio 189 was one of the hottest shows to Grace New York Fashion Week. The brand features an online Boutique as well as onsite boutiques in Soho NYC, and Accra, Ghana.
