PREPPY, RETRO & SPORT COME TOGETHER TO FORM THE NEW CASUAL THIS SPRING
This spring sporty style came back bigger than ever, in never seen before ways. The classic sweatsuit was reimagined, with sleeker fabrics, throwback influences, and a variety of textures, colors, and pattern combinations. For the Spring 21’ collections, Miu Miu was the most transformative of all. The iconic fashion house presented a totally unique spin on sport, with the revival of the retro tracksuit reinvented in sleeker materials paired with prepper looks. Thanks to Miu Miu, tracksuits are back in fashion, with a modern update. Matching sets in bold shades, retro color blocking looks paired with preppier fabrics such as Argyles and Plaids, were the biggest takeaway from the brand’s Spring/Summer 21 collection. Due to the effortlessness of this look, this style transitioned well from the runways and is now in stores. The preppy sport aesthetic will have a major influence on day-to-day casual dressing. The Zara 21’ Spring collection took it a bit further by offering retro-inspired knits in the form of dresses, skirts, and matching sets done in sportier fabrics. Zara also offers many unique plays on plaids, stripes and argyle looks paired with sportier combos. I don’t know about you but Zara has been my go-to store for preppy shopping staples lately !!! Moda Operandi also had some unique preppy sporty finds as well !! Such as the adorable Gingham wide-leg sweatsuit featured below!! Here are some of my favorite preppy retro sporty looks for spring and where to shop them!!!

Retro Sports
The tracksuit is back in fashion with a modern update. Matching sets with bold shades and retro color blocking styles ruled the runways. A popular to wear this trend is to pair the tracksuit with work-inspired separates and accessories to blend the styles together for a transitional contemporary look that is polished but doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Going along with the theme are also knitwear sets. Knits have been a big staple in rotation lately and they are going to stick around for the summer. For the warmer weather, lighter flexible fabrics that feel like activewear provide a tailored silhouette and coordinating pieces for a pulled-together outfit that you can wear all day.
Argyle
We first saw argyle appear in the Fall and it’s not going anywhere. Thanks to Miu Miu, The hot trend is getting an upgrade for Spring/Summer. Softer and pastel color pallets will showcase the diamond pattern featured on tops, skirts, and more, making it the perfect element for achieving the preppy sporty look.
Pair With
Stripes
Stripes are a classic pattern and tend to reemerge every year. Miu Miu was heavily inspired by these horizontal and vertical lines. In pinstripe form, Jaquemus presented this fabric on a cut-out midi-skirt for spring. While Tory Burch showcased the fabric on sportier silhouettes. Keep your eyes out for vibrant stripes in nautical colors and contrast piping details. A recurring concept to this year’s trends are complementary pairs so you will likely find match backs that are made to go together.
Pair With
Plaid/Gingham
Plaid patterns are always popular and we see them out in force during the Fall. However, they are not just for Fall and can be worn in the Spring/Summer too. This time of year, plaid takes on a lighter and brighter color scheme reflective of the season and we see different styles from just the traditional. Matching Gingham check and madras plaid patterns are popular and perfect to incorporate into your wardrobe.
