If you love boots, you are going to love the footwear for this season. A huge trend in fashion that is the shape of the season is the platform sock boot. We first saw this shoe silhouette appear several years ago. The design took its form from the platform shoes of the 70’s. Its reincarnated form from prior seasons were mostly in satin having a square or pointed toe. It is called a sock boot because the shaft of the boot is a fabric that conforms to your foot like a sock.
Due to the pandemic and the rise of comfy work from home styles dominating the trends in the past couple of seasons, we saw fashionistas trade in their pumps for comfortable footwear. Slippers and sneakers became the new shoe of choice. As a result, the sock boot disappeared into the back of our closet and our beloved sock boot was no longer in rotation.
However, now that we are heading back to the office and restrictions are being lifted, the sock boot is once again back in play, and this seasons styles are bigger and bolder than ever. Gone are the minimalist sock boot styles of the past. This seasons iterations feature bold styles, higher heels and extra large platforms in retro-upholstery.
These ankle or knee high wonders come in a variety of styles to choose from including leather boots, combat boots and lace up boot options to name a few.
Prada was leading the pack and featured the sock boot look on their Fall 2021 runways with a full line of different styles. One such pair with hues of purples and blues incorporated several trends by using a stretch knit fabric and argyle design, both of which are hot right now. Another was stitched with a floral motif in monochromatic black and white. They used this same concept for knee high sock boots too with complimentary color combinations that have a vintage yet modern feel to them. For the more traditional, they also had a classic black style and it is versatile enough to go with all your looks. Prada also pulled out the sparkle with a pair encrusted with dazzling sequins.
Stella McCartney’s interpretation used conscious vegetarian leather for her Skyla sock boot style which boasts a clean and classic style design and neutral color palette. Another piece in her collection is an ankle style that has retro feel with glitter texture, a flared heel and zip up front.
Bottega Veneta also had notable choices as well with their leather ankle version and stiletto style in statement red that’s sure to be a hit. Loewe did as well with an innovative crocodile embossed patent loafer style in a chunkier shape. If you looking for something nostalgic, check out the patent racing stripe down the center as a tribute to the Panama airlines stewardess boots brought to us from Nodaleto.
