We’re heading into the summer season and that means it’s time for new shoes. The fabulous footwear this season is all about the retro aesthetic with many styles giving a nod back to the 90’s and Y2k era. Read on for what’s trending and you’ll want to be wearing this season!
CLEAR SANDALS
If you’re looking for a sexy shoe, then this one might do it for you. These see though shoes come in fully clear and accented styles. Both in heels and flats, think of this as an elevated jelly shoe. Some are flexible and even combine with other trends like the gladiator shoes but we’re focusing on those Lucite like versions here. Celebs have been crushing on this footwear and it’s been a major player in the runway shows. Depending on how you style these transparent Cinderella shoes, they can go chic to edgy. Pair them with jeans to formal wear. Just make sure you’re pedicure ready before you slip into them!
CLOGS
Clogs were originally a 70’s staple that saw a resurgence in the 90’s/Y2k era and has now once again come back around in fashion footwear. The most traditional style of this chunky slip-on shoe have a wooden heel but we’re also seeing them made in other materials as well. The modern iterations come in embellished, statement, candy colored and platform designs, to name a few. Although this shoe has a controversial history with some loving or hating the style you can’t argue that it’s once again peeking in popularity and one of the biggest shoe trends this season.
PLATFORM MULES AND LOAFERS
Proving that fashion is currently obsessed with a 90’s and aughts revival, another throwback style of footwear that you can add to the shoe trend list are platforms, but, with an update. Platform shoes and heels are super popular but, the twist this time around is that you’ll find this style in everything from mules to loafers. Chunky lug soles and height defying designs are getting attention. While classic mules and loafers are timeless, the trendy versions that are in style now feature statement hardware and pointed toe accents giving a purposeful nod to all things Y2K fashion.
Disco Heels
When it comes to platform heels for Spring/Summer 2022, metallic is in! Illuminate your look with these Studio 54 inspired heels. These dancing shoes come in bold metallics and fun colors that will have you ready to party.
Wedges
Wedges are a great, versatile shoe for the season. They’re quite comfortable and give you height while being supportive to stand on. For this season, the wedge has increased to platform heights inspired by that trend. We love that this style shoe can be dressed up or down and goes with almost everything from jeans to dresses.
MARY JANES
While ballet flats usually reign supreme, there’s an addition to watch this season. The Mary Jane shoe is the one to wear in the warmer weather. This simple style with a strap comes in flat and heeled versions. Crossover trends will also see these in platform and square toe styles too. This vintage favorite has gotten an upgrade and it’s not your plain Mary Jane.
Tourist Sandals
With travel back in full swing, it’s no wonder that the tourist sandal is summer 2022’s cult favorite! These are not your traditional tourist sandal by any stretch. They come in varieties such as the plastic trends, clear, and candy-colored shades, Even the classic Birkenstock is getting a rework and jumping on the platform trend. The traditional corkbed bottom has been swapped out for an elevated bottom and linear design that raises the height for an on trend aesthetic bringing a classic style up to date. Thats right, for summer 2022 crochet is also one of the biggest trends in sandals too and you can find it all over your wedges! Crochet details are available on a wide range of styles from the coveted tourist sandal to fashion flip flops and elevated sneakers!
